Chopta is a remote village in evergreen forest area of Uttarakhand at a Height of 2,608m. Hence, everyone should prepare and know a few important things before visiting Chopta. This blog will help you to prepare for Chopta Chandrashila Trek.
Things you should Know about Chopta:
- Chopta has no electrity: One should be aware that Chopta runs on Solar energy. Hence, you’ll get limited supply of electricity during 7-10pm.
- Out of Network Zone: While traveling from Delhi you may find network connectivity till Sari Village. There are fewer network zones in Chopta Village.
- The last ATM is in Ukhimath: If you are traveling to Chopta make sure you have enough cash in hand as it’s a no-network zone. The last ATM you find while traveling from Delhi is Ukhimath.
- Limited Food Available: One should aware that Chopta is a village and there are no cafes and fancy restaurants.
- Controlled by Forest Officials: Whole village is a forest region and forest department keeps a check on tourism. Hence, bonfire and night parties are allowed for limited time only.
- Easy-moderate Trek: Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek is an easy trek for beginners. Alcohol is not allowed while trekking. Indeed, it’s checked by forest officials.
- Forest Entry Ticket: Sometimes forest officials charge ₹150 for Chandrashila Trek and needs to be paid in Cash.
Essential Things to Carry:
- 3 Layers of winter Clothing: T-Shirt, Fleece and Jacket. Thermals is a plus.
- Gloves and warm cap: Temperature may drop to -6 in Winters
- Trekking pant/lower
- Torch for safety
- Power bank is a must: Chopta has no electricity
- Sports/Trekking shoes
- Water proof shoes incase of snow ( can be rented there )
- 2 Bags: A Bagpack and a small bag.
- Slippers
- Extra socks
- Aadhar Card
- Basic necessities
